Introduction
GeniEd2 is a tool for editing one of the most interesting data files in
AoK and SWGB, allowing you to edit almost every aspect of every unit.
The original GeniEd imposed no limitations on what you could edit, but
was extremely slow and ugly; so a little while later,
GeniEd2 was born with the sole purpose of editing the stats of existing
units.
Supported games
GeniEd2 understands the files
genie.dat (SWGB),
genie_x1.dat (SWGB:CC),
empires2_x1.dat (AoK:TC) and
empires2_x1_p1.dat (AoK:TC patched).
Miscellaneous features
Unit list filter
Type something into the "Search for unit" box to limit the units
displayed in the list. The unit's internal names, language.dll name
and ID number are searched.
The search string is actually a regular
expression, which allows complex searches: ^trooper$ finds
only Troopers (excluding Trooper Recruits and Anti-Air Troopers),
unit-.*e$ finds Empire-specific units, etc. (Search the web
for "regular expression" to find lots of tutorials on how to write
regexps).
Copy to all civs
The Genie data file duplicates information about every unit between
every civilisation - this seems to be the way they (Ensemble)
allowed Jedi/monks to convert enemy units so that they belong to
a different civ without changing their appearance.
The 'Copy to all civs' option (which is (unsurprisingly) run
automatically if you've got 'Auto copy to all civs' enabled) takes
the data for the unit you've been editing and copies it to the same
unit in every civ. If you edit an Imperial Trooper with "Empire"
selected, it will be copied to the Imperial Trooper in every civ,
but will not affect the Rebel's Rebel Trooper or the
Gungan's Gungan Trooper.
